About HVI CertificationThe Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) is the premier nonprofit association of the manufacturers of home ventilating products. HVI Certification provides assurance that you are purchasing a product that has been tested and certified to meet specific industry standards. HVI Certification also means that this product will perform as promised and, when installed correctly, you will receive proper ventilation to maximize indoor air quality.  HVI is Indoor Air QualityAccording to research, proper ventilation produces greater IAQ--Indoor Air Quality--to protect people from unhealthy indoor pollutants and buildings from excess moisture and heat, ultimately aiding in the control of all contaminants including moisture and mold.Standards for minimum residential ventilation rates have been established by ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) for achieving appropriate environmental air quality. This rate takes into account a combination of mechanical fans and air leakage into the home (infiltration). Infiltration varies from home to home and changes with weather conditions, therefore HVI recommends using mechanical fans (not infiltration) for the total rate required to ensure that the minimum ASHRAE ventilation rates are met.
