Air compressors come in a variety of sizes and configurations. Please select from the general categories below.

Power Type

Power Type

Power type will be determined primarily by application. For instance contractors working on location would probably select gasoline which would not be dependent electrical restraints.

Tank Size (Gallons)

Tank Size

Select from the tank size below. Tanks are measured in gallons.  In general if you will be using air tools that require continuous air, than you should consider a larger tank. If you are planning to use air tools that will only require intermittent running, your compressor can have a smaller tank size.

Mas PSI is your air compressor's highest pressure it will produce.  For air tool operation, you will need to consider both PSI and CFM required for the tool use.  The following are some examples:

  • Nail Gun: 100 PSI  -  2.2 CFM
  • Impact Wrench:  90 PSI  -  5-9 CFM

SCFM at 40 PSI
SCFM at 90 PSI
SCFM at 100 PSI
SCFM at 175 PSI

CFM is the acronym for cubic feet per minute.

Every air tool has an operational cfm requirement, and every air compressor has a maximum cfm output. The air compressor’s cfm output must be greater than the cfm requirement to keep all the pneumatic tools in the shop operating efficiently. There is no perfect formula for calculating your shop’s peak cfm demands, but a general rule of thumb is 5 cfm per technician.
