top of the line Arrived in excellent condition even before the due date. My daughter installed it with no problem. She leveled it in the window and it began running at the first test. There was almost no vibration. I am very pleased with the fan and especially with the difference it makes in the attic. October 1, 2011

It works I installed this unit in a guest room knowing it would likely be too loud to have in a bedroom we use. It works great, moves a lot of air but it is loud. Best installation would be in a window that is not in a bedroom. Also, it would be good if the unit came with materials to insect proof around the unit. I found our insect screens provided too much resistance to the airflow so I removed the screen--which means now the window is unprotected. Not a major problem while the unit is running since the little buggers would have a hard time flying upwind--it's more of a concern with the unit off. Of course, then you need just close the window behind the fan. Happy overall. September 5, 2011

Surprised ATTENTION: I was very unhappy with the window fan I purchased from Venting Direct. It was noisy. You can't take it apart and clean it, it did not fit well in the window and the rubber inserts kept falling out. I was so mad I wrote a negative comment on THIS site!! OUT OF NOWHERE, the customer service person, "Angie" contacted me and was very helpful. She offered either a replacement or a refund. She took me at my word, did NOT try to make excuses or deny the faulty product. All this was done IMMEDIATELY. This is a RARE situation folks! I think this is the IDEAL way to "do business." Although I still feel the same way about the fan, the company Venting Direct is HONEST, professional, and care about the customers. Great Fan Great Buy Bought this for my mother who had an old Sears window fan for years. Unfortunatley the motor died and she was afaraid she wouldn't be able to find a replacement that was as good as her 30 year old fan. This fan works as well or better than her original. Great Fan, Great company Love the fan, we're using it in a one of a kind situation. I would say that the rubber rail guides should be better glued or secured. They kept falling out and had to re-glue. I think the side panels could be a bit more solid so that they don't move around so much when the fan is on. But it has great power (the fan) and I hope to use for years. Tahnks Guys August 14, 2011

Perfect! This wonderful fan arrived two days before our last heat wave. It was easy to put in by myself. Follow the directions exactly and it isn't a problem. I open all the doors and windows about 5 in the morning, put it on the middle speed setting, and let it run for an hour. When I close the windows and doors I've got a house that stays about 13 degrees cooler than the outside temperature as the day gets hotter. My attic is insulated to R-51 and my walls to about R-14 so it keeps the heat out and feels much cooler when I walk in on a hot day. August 12, 2011

Can this fan fit a 40.5 inch window by using long screws on the side?

The Air King 9166 as-is cannot fit a window of that size.

Can the fan be mounted vertically and will it work properly if mounted vertically?

The Air King 9166 is meant to only be installed horizontally. It should not be installed vertically.

Does it intake and out take the air?

This will intake the air from outside and blow it into the room the window is in.

Is the fan's side panels adjustable to fit a variety of windows? I have 72l by 36w windows and how should I store the fan? Do the panels fold over the blade for storage and what should I use to clean it? Are the grill and blade, when removed, dishwasher safe?

Unfortunately, this won't work with your application. The overall dimensions are 26.75" Length x 11.25" Width x 26.25" Height and is not adjustable. Also I would not advise putting the fan blade in the dishwasher, just hand wash.

Is this fan made in th U.S.?

The Air King 9166 was constructed internationally however Air King is U.S. based and has a reputation for manufacturing Quality ventilation products in the U.S. for over 40 years.

The Air King 9166 can fit window openings ranging from 27" to 38" with a minimum opening of 26.25" tall.

Can this fan be mounted in a metal framed window? Do you need different screws than the wood screws provided?

You should be able to mount The Air King 9166 in a metal window frame, but you would want to use metal screws vs. the wood screws that are provided.

The Air King 9166 does not come with a thermostat, however it has three speeds.

Storm guard is the design of the fan. It has a minimal profile so you can close the window with out removing the fan

The Air King 9166 3 Speed 1/6 Horsepower Wholehouse Window Air Circulator fits windows a minimum of 26.25" high. The Air King 9155 is the smallest model by Air King and it fits windows a minimum of 22" high.

The Air King 9166 moves about 3500 cubic feet per minute, so it will effectively clear the air in your house quickly and efficiently! Although it does not actually "cool" your house, it will rapidly bring the temperature in your house to that of what it is outside.

The Air King 9166 is specifically made for the use of a window fan on exhaust or intake. If this mounted on an angle the motor with burn out quickly.

Air King 9166/9155 Window Air Circulators cannot be mounted on their sides as doing so would put the motor off balance, preventing the unit from properly functioning. Air King does not recommend installing this unit vertically.
