20 Inch 3560 CFM Whole House Window Fan with Storm Guard Housing
This fan fit like a glove into my window w/o the sides. I put a small strip of carpet on the window seal under the fan, but it probably isn't necessary. I installed an L bracket on each side at the top to hold it in place. This thing works great. I put it upstairs in the guest room and opened the windows on the opposite side of the house downstairs, and it brought my thermostat down 10 degrees in 10 mins. You don't even need it on high. Obviously this was during the cool evening nites, but it works just like an attic fan, and I can remove the fan as necessary with just 2 screws. It does exactly what I wanted it to do. I highly recommend it, as an option to an attic fan, which I didn't have space for anyway, and the install is much easier, faster, and cheaper overall. I love it.

The best fan ever!
I love this fan! I had to build a wooden frame to attach the fan frame since my window is the large sliding type. Then I screwed the wooden frame to the top and side studs around the window opening.
If you make sure there isn't any large air gaps around the fan to pull heat in around it, the fan is very effective at pulling the hot air through the house and out the fan on exhaust. Open a window
or door on the opposite side of the house to equalize pressure. The fan is big and heavy so make sure ladies you have help installing it.

Awesome! Best home improvement ever.
This fan does a terrific job of exhausting the hot air out of our home.
What the mfg doesn't tell you is how to use it most effectively. We open all of the windows in the house only an inch and turn it to exhaust and on high. You can feel the cool air rush into the house as the hot air is sucked out. Later we put it on intake and open everything up.
It is installed in a horizontal sliding window. We had to have a casing built for it as it is not designed for that type of window. We can still close the window and will take it out once we get past the hot season. The screen is attached to the outside window casing rather than being in its track. (You need the screen or big crawly things can come in.)

Very Nice Whole House Fan
The quality of the fan, wire shield, and plastic shroud is excellent. The reversible feature is also a huge plus.
Noise: This is not a family room fan. I would mount it in a window in room that is less frequently used. We have second story room over the garage, it is mostly a play room, and the kids don't mind the fan noise when playing XBOX. On the lowest setting the noise is okay, this is the setting most used whether the kids are in the room or not.
Mounting: Designed for a double-hung window. But I mounted it in removable slider window. I used MDF boards to as a border and mounted the shroud to the MDF frame, then secured the MDF frame to the window casing with a few drywall screws. I removed the screen and can still close the slider portion of the window when the fan is not in use. Only draw back is to remember to open the window before using the fan (had to teach the kids to do this).
I will use this fan in the summer time and probably will store it in the winter.
Moves air enough to keep the house cool in two-story, 3700 sq. foot home. Probably a little small, but the air movement is much better than just opening the windows.
I live in Northern California, summer temps have been in the high 90's and low 100's. At night the air temp has been cooling off and the fan works great!

Old school solid fan
Nice American made fan, very solid and heavy duty with a few updated design features.
Really effective at moving air and the lowest speed setting may be TOO strong/loud for smaller homes or apartments.
I Found three loose rubber parts in the box when I opened it up, took a while to figure out they were dampers for the adjustable side wings.
The manual badly needs updated and rewritten.
I was able to use this in a window that does NOT open the minimum height of 26.5 inches (I only have 21") While a few inches of upper blade are blocked by the sash the fan still powerfully exhausts air in my small (800 sq. ft.) apt.
I would strongly recommend.

Economical whole house fan
When our fan arrived, it was bigger than I had expected and just fit in the window to fill the opening. It moves air much more efficiently than the 18-inch table fan that we had been using in front of that window and isn't much noisier. We also don't have worry about cats getting in front of it. Not only can we close the window in front of it when it gets hotter outside or it rains (like last night's thunderstorm), but the blinds also slide down to shade it and the room (the window is south facing). We get the same functionality as an attic mounted whole house fan without the hole in our ceiling.
We recommended it to a friend who says she didn't have to turn on her air conditioning during the recent heat wave.

Air King 20 inch Fan
Before purchasing this whole house fan, I read the reviews of others. Most were satisfied with the fan, but one common issue was fan noise.
After compleing the simple installation, I was pleasantly surprised. All fans make noise -- they have to to move the air. This fan was quieter that I expected, and quieter than any windown installed fan we have used in the past. The rubber supports for the frame and the frame support screws, once installed, provided vibration free operation. The fan blade and motor also appear to be very well balanced.
Excellent fan, I recommend it to anyone looking for a window mounted whole house fan.

I have installed typical whole house fans and they are complicated and expensive. You have to cut a hole in the ceiling, provide power to the site, assure adequate attic ventilation to accommodate the cfm, and then you have a gaping hole in your attic insulation to deal with. This sweet little unit, placed in an upstairs window, does the job with an installation consisting of 4 screws. And in the fall you take it out of the window and store it for next summer. I have the 20" unit and it evacuates all the hot air from my old 1890's farmhouse in less than 5 minutes. Both of my sons now have one in their homes based on witnessing my unit in action. Highly recommended.

This is a great whole house window fan and has really cooled down our house quickly in the evening when it was cool enough to turn off the AC. It's quiet and strong with 3 speeds to either exhaust or fan. We use it in an upstairs bedroom window to exhaust, drawing the warmer air out of the upstairs and the cooler air through the windows downstairs.
One complaint: The fan was sent without mounting screws and without an inside window frame mounting template, both of which were supposed to be provided with the fan. It was Air King who finally sent both the 4 screws and the template after 2 phone calls complaining about the missing parts.

This was the very first Air King fan that I have ever purchased. I read all the excellent reviews and then decided to buy it. It is an excellent fan!! It's very powerful and works wonderfully. I don't have an air conditioner in my house right now and this fan has made the heat bearable. I've already decided that as I replace my old fans I will be replacing them with Air King fans! They are my new favorite!
VentingDirect.com has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, that is what made up my mind to purchase from this company! Don't hesitate to buy this fan and don't hesitate to buy from this company! And no, I am not an employee! Just a satisfied customer!! :)
