Hydro Pro 28 inch (420cc) Two Stage Hydro Pro Snow Blower
Fantastic Piece of Professional Equiptment
The Hydro Pro 28 is an impressive machine. If you are on the fence if the hydro-static transmission is worth it, or even the professional over the platinum... it's not even a decision, this is the way to go.
I spent way more than I originally planned to when I started shopping, but I didn't want to have any regrets since this isn't the type of purchase you can just bring back. After doing my research for two months I finally landed on the Hydro Pro 28" and build.com because it was the best deal around and after talking with a sales rep I was informed they ship directly from Ariens so there's no middle man involved. After ordering I had worry that I went for more than I should have.
Delivery was quick, it was in flawless shape and it was an easy setup with very clear instructions, you can google simple picture step-by-step setup instructions that are better than the Ariens papers.
Once setup, it started on first try, ran like a dream and a week later we had snow and this thing just eats it up like it doesn't exist without even slowing down the engine. it's a whole different experience with a 420cc engine and a 320+lb piece of equipment, coming from a old 5hp Craftsman it makes that old toy a joke. When I hit the end of the driveway where it was 18" of dense packed snow, the hydroPro just ate it up without any issue. My next snow I had some built up icy spots and I wanted to widen my first job, the augers just shaved and tossed large icy mounds like a snow cone machine without stopping.
The Hydro transmission completely changes the way you work, this must save 40 minutes off my job since 1/2 my work is not just up back, I have parking spots, side walks, cut outs in the driveway, and the ability to easily go from forward to reverse back to forward takes a 30 second activity and turns it into 2 seconds, repeat that 30 or 40 times and it's a big time saver. I could NEVER go back to an old fixed gear tranny again.
If you are uncertain - you won't regret it. it's a serious workhorse and I have a 18 degree 90 degree curved part to my driveway and this goes right up it ( I added the weight kit to keep the front down). so there's plenty of traction without chains or the tractor drive system.
When you compare this unit to a Platinum 32" you are talking about a 100+lb weight different, hydro tranny, significantly larger Briggs polar engine and better warranty... it's a significant upgrade and in my opinion worth every penny. I have no regrets going for this model after my first use, and now that I've used it 6 times and tonight another 6"-10" is forecasts, I have no worries that I'll just blast through it.
