1. How do I calculate what size fan is needed for my attic?

Take the square foot of your attic and multiply by 0.7. That will give you the minimum CFM rating required for your attic. Add 15 percent for dark covered roofs.

2. How much free area air intake do I need in the attic for the fan to work properly ?

Divide the CFM required by 300 and then multiply the result by 144 to give you the square inches of free air area required.

3. How do I calculate the existing free air in my attic already has?

If you have eve vents or gable vents multiply the length by width of each one. This will give you the square inches, (if the opening is covered with screen divide by 2) The net free area may be stamped in the frame on the vent. Add up all the totals from all of the vents to get your total existing free air area.

4. What if I do not have enough free air area in my attic?

We recommend adding additional free air area to insure that your Attic Fan is working at optimal efficiency.

5. What temperature should the thermostat of the Attic Fan/Ventilator be set on?

This usually is set around 110 degrees, depending on your climate. If it seems to run too much, raise the setting by 10 degrees.

6. Can I paint the dome on my Attic ventilator? What kind of paint do I use ?

The dome may be painted using a normal water base exterior house paint. Do attic exhaust fans

7. Do attic exhaust fans come with a thermostat?

Yes, all attic exhaust fans are equipped with a thermostat.

8. Can a variable speed control switch be used with an attic exhaust fan?

The model 72 variable speed control can be used with the 350, 353, 355, & 350. The model #356 can not be used with a variable speed control.

9. Can a gable exhaust fan be installed on a roof?

No. The gable fans are designed to be installed on vertical locations.

10. Do roof fans have bird guards installed on the products?

Yes, the bird screens are manufactured on the individual roof exhaust fans.

11. Can a roof fan be installed on a vertical surface?

No. The roof exhaust fans are to be installed on horizontal surfaces. The NuTone gable fans are designed for vertical installations.

12. Can an attic exhaust fan be installed on a flat roof?

Yes. Note that a curb will need to be built so that the housing is higher and snow and water levels would not affect product performance.

13. Can I install a dehumidistat to the attic ventilator?

Yes the DH100W will work.
