Bath Fan Exhaust Guide

Location, location, location. This is the key to your bath fan working properly. Typically, if your bathroom fan is rated for tub and shower use (UL Listed), it’s best to mount it over the tub or shower, if possible. Even directly over the toilet is an effective location to maximize the unit’s potential.

In addition, keep the exhaust points opposite the supply-air source to guarantee fresh air is drawn through the room. Also, bathroom doors should not be sealed too tightly at the bottom in order to allow "makeup air" to enter the room when the door is closed. Makeup air is the air needed to replace air being exhausted by the fan.

More specifically, within the ventilation unit itself, make sure the exhaust outlet points toward the exit vent on your roof or wall to minimize turns in ductwork that impede airflow.
