Does this fan need a remote to operate?

Thank you for your question. The Broan 671 is used with a wall mounted switch.

Do the fan units come with the grill or is that extra.

The Broan 671 comes with the White Polymeric Grill.

I have an old fan 8" x 8.5" opening with 3" round vent. What replacement would match this opening?

The Broan 671 is 7.5" x 7.25" and includes adjustable brackets. The grill is 9" so it should cover your installation.
