Awesome Light! This light is so great becuase it has a long neck that gives it lots of flexibility, it's LED so it doesn't get hot, and the beam is narrowly focused so you can read in bed at night without disturbing your partner. Where has this been all of my life?? Absolutely the best lighting purchase I have ever made! May 13, 2011

perfection for in-bed reading My wife & I spend a lot of time on the road (in hotels/motels etc.) and have experienced all manner of over-bed reading lights. These are, by far, the best ever. They attach firmly to the wall, flex and stretch in all directions, yet stay put until re-adjusted. The L.E.D. lamp is very bright, yet focused (can be ignored by one's sleeping bedmate). The lamp stays cool and uses almost no electricity. The switch is even quiet. We're both reading better and sleeping better. May 3, 2011

Excellent Bed Lamp; Best Price Too. I installed two lamps on either side of a queen-sized wood headboard. Light position can be adjusted over a wide range of positions for night reading, while not disturbing snoring mate. These are my first LED lights and the light is bright and directed. I like it for reading. Comes with a black power cord and metal conduit to hide the cord if necessary. Because of the relatively long gooseneck I could mount them lower and not need the conduits. It took only about twenty minutes to mark, drill pilot holes, and screw the plates to the headboard. First get your mate to lie in bed to determine the best position for the plate. The gooseneck is about 4-6in longer than I needed to place the light in all the spots that I would use. The non-shiny Bronze lamp is barely visible on a wood background. The switch on the plate is easy to operate in the dark. Our Lighting Direct (March 2011) price was 25-30% less than larger competitor and delivered promptly. It is such a great improvement over lamps teetering on the edge of side tables. I considered over fifty comparable designs before placing an order. April 23, 2011

Great Reading Light After staying in a local resort that had these flexible lights in the bedroom, we bought two to mount on the wall on each side of the bed. We now have perfect light for our before bed reading. Hess lamps are nicely finished and match our furniture and provide lots of direct light that won't bother your partner. Best price too! Great bedside lighting I got two of these lights to mount on either side of the bed and they are great. They don't get hot to the touch, they adjust to any angle, and they look terrific. The only thing that would make them better is if they had a lower wattage setting so I could switch-on a lower setting to prevent disturbing the boss in the wee hours. But, the light is bright enough to comfortably read-by even when sunlight is streaming through windows and yet not too bright that it will light-up the whole room. I'm very happy with these. Color Question - the dark bronze looks black to me. Is it close to black?

The dark bronze finish for the Cal Lighting BO-119 is black with a hint of copper.

Can the gooseneck bend to and remain in a position where the lamp is below the level of the mount? Is the gooseneck flexible enough to bend 90 degrees over 4-5 inches?

The Cal Lighting BO-119 gooseneck does bend to just below the mount but will not make a 90 degree bend as you are inquiring about.

How far out from the wall does the mounting plate sit?

The Cal Lighting BO-119 projects 1/2".

One of the reviews mentions the desire to use the lamp at a lower wattage. Can a lower watt LED bulb be used?

The Cal Lighting BO-119 can use a lower wattage bulb, you don't want to use higher, that can damage fixture.

What are the dimensions of the base plate?

The Cal Lighting BO-119 has a surface tight mounted box cover plate and the cord is fixed at length on the outside of the cover plate so the excess cord would stay fixed. The length of the cord is most likely between 4' to 5'.
