Does it have to be a 100w medium light bulb or can you use a smaller watt medium light bulb?

The Craftmade Z271 does not need to use a 100W, that is just the maximum wattage that it can go. You can use less wattage.

Is it metal or plastic?

The Craftmade Z271 is made of aluminum.

Is the bottom of the light sealed or open?

The Craftmade Z271 is open at the bottom of the fixture.

Is this light Hardwire or Plug-in. I am looking for a plug-in hanging pendant/light.
