Door Chime FAQ

Door Chimes

Frequently asked questions regarding Door Chimes

1. Can a two (2) note chime be replaced by an electronic chime?

Yes. Note that the wiring between the two types of chimes may be different.

2. Can a two (2) note chime be replaced by a 4/8 note chime?

No. The 4/8 note chimes require a "common wire", which is normally not present in a simple 2 note chime installation.

3. May two (2) chimes be on the same pushbutton?

Yes. Parallel installation of two (2) chimes is easily accomplished. Install the first chime normally, making sure that it is operating properly. Wire the second chime to the first , "front to front", "rear to rear", and "trans to trans". It is also required that a more powerful transformer be installed (ie: NuTone model 301T).

4. What is the small electronic part that comes with the LA-52WH?

It is a diode that needs to be put across the button that connects to the front terminals. The diode is polarized. If it does not work when first installed, then reverse the diode.

5. What is happening if a 4/8 note chime only operates as long as the pushbutton is depressed?

Both leads of the transformer and the "common" wire must be connected to the chime for proper operation. Check the wiring for proper connection.

6. What is the operational distance for the wireless chimes?

Up to 100 feet, line of sight with no obstructions, but 30 feet is a typical installed range.

7. How many wireless chimes can be controlled by a single wireless pushbutton?

Most wireless chimes may be used with multiple receivers as long as they are coded the same and are within 30 feet, depending on structure.

8. How many two note chimes can be used in a single application?

Three (3) two note chimes may be used in a single chime application.

9. How do I make my electronic chime louder?

Turn the volume control up the desired level, located on the chime.

10. What frequency do the wireless chimes operate?

315 Mhz.

11. What size batteries are used in the wireless transmitter for the wireless chimes?

The Eveready® (A23) and the Duracell® (MN21) are examples of batteries used in the wireless transmitter.

12. Can two (2) electronic chimes be wired together?

No. Extension speakers may be used for additional desired locations.

13. What may be done with a wireless chime that is not operating from a short distance from the receiver?

Move the pushbutton to a different location. Move pushbutton away from any metal surface. You may need to experiment to locate the optimal transmission location. Changing the code on the transmitter and receiver may also assist with this issue.

14. Can an additional receiver be used with one wireless transmitter?

Yes. Note that the receiver is signaled from the transmitter(s), and any unusual obstruction between the transmitter and receiver may reduce the signal strength causing intermittent operation.
