Is it ok to use this as a chimney liner inside an 8" double wall chimney
A. The Simpson Dura-Vent 1648SS 1648SS 6" x 48" Single Wall Stainless Steel Stove Pipe Straight Length from the DuraBlack Series is not a chimney liner. As far as putting a liner in double-walled stove pipe, the manufacturer of both the liner and the double-walled stove pipe are okay with it, the manufacturer of your appliance is probably okay with it, but the original manufacturer of your pre-fab box would not be okay with it and in the case of house fire, you would be liable because of that one weak link. Professional installers do this all day long, but it is a big controversy in the industry.
What gauge is this item?
A. The Simpson Dura-Vent 1648SS is 24-gauge.
What kind of steel is it?
The DuraVent 1648SS is 24 gauge 304 stainless steel. It has one seam.

And even though manufacturers require Build.com and other retailers to display a product's "minimum advertised price" (or MAP), the retailer can choose to sell for less than that. But the price must be conveyed in other ways, and each individual manufacturer's MAP policy determines where the price can be seen.
