The Emtek E4827 is going to be able to have an out side installation. You will want to make sure that the item is however protected from the elements slightly.

Emtek EMTouch Electronic Keypad Handleset
Emtek's EMTouch Handleset is a combination of style, function and security all wrapped up into a perfect addition to any home. No more digging for keys or making dozens of copies, the electronic keypad handleset comes factory programmed with 2 unique, secure codes right out of the box and can be programmed for up to 20 additional codes of your choice. Choose from dozens of Emtek knobs or levers for the interior to match your decor. Please note that only the most popular choices are listed and if you see a knob or lever style not listed, please call customer service and we will happily add it for you.
All Emtek's EMTouch electronic keyless products are easily installed with only a Phillips head screwdriver and fit doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick with a standard 2-1/8" bore. Programming is simple and can be done right from the keypad. The keys are illuminated for easy and quick operation day or night and a low battery indicator lets you know when it's necessary to switch the battery.

What is the center to center spacing from deadbolt to lockset?
The Emtek E4827 is recommended to be installed minimum 5.5" on center.
Does the E4827 electronic keypad wear better than the E4817 push button keypad? Basically I am asking, which one will hold up better over time, ie will not show a wear pattern?
Both the Emtek E4817 and E4827 are both made of brass construction and can be done in the same finishes. I believe either one of these locks would be a great choice to avoid a wear pattern.
What is the difference between E4827US19 and E4817US19?
The Emtek E4827 uses a different keypad than the E4817.
Do you change the battery from inside the house or outside? If the battery goes dead, are you still able to enter the house, such as with an owner's key? I am planning to use this handleset on a rental property.
The Emtek E4827 does have a key that you, as the owner can keep to operate the electronic keypad. You would change the battery from the inside of the house by unscrewing the backplate. There is also a low battery indicator.
I am placing this in a relatively dark place, is the LED keypad sufficient?
The item is designed to light up to be seen in the dark. It should be sufficient.
Does it have a matching dummy set?
The Emtek E4827 does not have a matching dummy set.
What is the ANSI grade rating?
The Emtek E4827 is designed for residential use only and it is not given an ANSI rating.
