Before & After: Eclectic Guest Bathroom

ACH Designs -

The guest bathroom was a blank canvas when we got our hands on it – literally! The walls were beige like the hallway color and lacked any artwork or architectural interest. The vanity up-lighting in the bathroom was not the best as the room is already very dark with just one skylight and no windows. Our main goals for this décor project were to improve the lighting and give this space some interest with pops of color and layer textures.

The biggest, most obvious change is the walls! We had the black and white lattice wallpaper from York Wallcoverings installed and said farewell to the bland beige! We replaced the leaning ladder shelves against the wall with a funky industrial cabinet that could store all of the bathroom necessities with easy access. Not only is your eye instantly drawn to the cabinet, but also functionally it was a major improvement!

Among the changes, we replaced the vanity mirrors and switched out the light fixtures to a much better Murray Feiss fixture, which drastically helped with the lighting. The oil rubbed bronze finish on the lighting fixtures has a much bigger impact than the old polished chrome fixtures. Oversize pieces like the large textured elephant artwork over the toilet and the vintage Chinese apothecary jars on the cabinet draw your eye up, accentuating the vaulted ceilings and making the space appear much bigger. Fun accessories like the old wooden boxes from Cyan Design in the cabinet consolidate toiletries without adding clutter.
