insufficientThis lamp simply doesn't provide much light. I followed the advice given regarding the size of the lamp needed to light a painting of a given size. This lamp adequately lights about 25% of it. What a waste. Additionally, the brackets supplied didn't fit my particular frame at all so I had to nail the lamp into my wall. Of course, now I have to take it all down now because this was a complete waste of money and doesn't do the job.

Simple, elegant designAside from the negatives you might have read in other reviews, this is a handsome light and adds greatly to your prized paintings. It is pricey for such a small light but it is well made and the finishes are better than many other brands. The Weather Brass finish goes well with many guilded frames. Unless your frame is flat on the back (ie. canvas does not project beyond the plane of the frame back), you will have to install the light directly on the wall and then hang the picture under it. If you measure carefully to give the proper clearence, this is not overly difficult. If your frame is flat, the installation is straight forward and the hardware provided should be all you need for either wall or frame installation.
Bottom line, if you want to light a painting, this is a good fixture and you will be happy with both the finished appearance of the installed light and your painting will have a "vibrance" and "life" that is not possible with only ambient room light.

SL 30 Picture LightThe SL 30 is a high quality, nice design that is much better than the last picture light we had. Each bulb is in it own socket instead of sliding down a tube with end contacts only. This also makes it way easier to replace bulbs. The light given off fully illuminates the picture. Two concerns: First the sockets need to grip the bulbs a little tighter to keep them within the diameter of the housing tube. Basically, with some finessing they can be adjusted correctly. The second concern is that no one except House of Troy carried the replacement bulbs. After several phone calls to Lighting Direct they now carry the bulbs and can be ordered under the no. 15T4. They may not be listed in the online catalogue, but can be ordered by phone request.

How much light does this put out?
A. The House of Troy SL30 has a 100w bulb but only gives a very concentrated light to the picture and not the surrounding areas.
