How To Improve Plant Drainage with Cans

Written by: Brent Holland

Some potted plants require a lot of drainage, and it can be tricky to get the right amount so your plant can thrive. Try this technique using empty soda cans.

Tools/Materials:

Planter or pot, soil, plant, empty soda cans

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1:

Crumple several empty soda cans.

Step 2:

Place the crushed cans in your pot. The more cans you place in, the more drainage your plant will receive.

Step 3:

Pour potting soil on top of the cans.

Step 4:

Add your plant and fill in any additional space with soil.
