Hunter 27183 Reviews

Poor QualityThis is a sliding variable control switch, the fan side of the switch was stuck and the knob broke off when I was trying to unstick. I glued it back on and got it loose and it is working, but the switch IMO is very loose and it feels like you have to be very careful with it or it could break again. I do not recommend buying this switch and if I had to do again, knowing the quality, I wouldn't buy.

very poor qualityI'm surprised this control is still working after a week. It has the quality of those plastic gee-gaws you get from the 25 cent vending machines at the supermarket. I'm not sure how it could be made more flimsy. I'm shopping for a better wall control now (not from Hunter...).

A little flimsy but also classyWe stripped our house of polished brass, including hinges, faucets, lights, door handles. We are selling our house. We installed Hunter 46" bronze fans in what are likely the child bedrooms. Important points on the control switches: (1) some reviewers on other sites correctly say these controls are flimsy, (2) there are three buttons, one for on/off and two for lights and speed, (3) once you gently set the flimsy light/speed sliders like you want, you never have to touch them again, just hit the sturdy on/off button, (4) Hunter fans come with free CFLs, but we upgraded by buying the much more expensive dimmable CFLs (I never tested the included CFLs to see how they would work with this switch, but somehow that seems like a bad idea to dim a non-dimmable bulb). My installer had some problems with the Hunter wiring diagrams and got the setup wrong on the first try (his light switch controlled the speed), but the control worked perfectly with the hot wires switched. Since this control is the size of a soft-touch switch, we bought a new 2-hole cover plate plus a soft-touch switch. The wall plate looks fabulous with the joint Hunter control for the fan and a soft-touch for the other switch. My installer says this combination makes for a very crowded outlet box. In summary: this switch requires only the on/off button once you set the light/speed sliders as desired, and it looks fabulous when complemented with a soft-touch switch in the wall plate.

Poor qualityI like what it does, but it's poor quality. It's not going to last long at all.

OK Wall ControllIt works OK. However, the dimmer and fan control buttons touch each other when moved. Also, we placed it next to Lutron Maestro switch, which operates spot lights in the same room, and you could clearly see and feel the difference in products' quality. If I could do it again, I would operate fan and light controls by two different switches.

Easy to installThe switch was simple to install. However, the bottom button is not a button. It works more like a switch, which seems like it is loose or something. However, it is a nice feature to have on the switch. I really like how the switch is a dimmer and has 4 fan speed options. If the button was a button and not a switch, I would have rated this higher.

Poor ValueThis is the second switch I bought. The first one (a simpler version of the one we were trying to replace) I had to return because it wasn't compatible with the receiver in my Hunter Douglas ceiling fan (even though I called Build.com and gave them all the necessary information and model # and they said it was). So I returned that one and bought the identical model # switch that we were trying to replace. Even though we paid full price we could not use the new receiver that came with the switch - it simply didn't work. So our electrician had to take out the new one and reinstall the old one. Also, the switch only partially works - some of the buttons don't work at all. Also, the new battery that came with it was bad. I am going to keep the switch since it is now installed and enough of it works to be able to use the light but I'm disappointed that I paid all of the price and only get basically half the value of my purchase. I've simply had to wait too long to have my light back in my kitchen.

Can this control both the fan & the light?
A. The Hunter 27183 controls one fan with four speeds and simultaneously controls a fixture's fan and light with full dimming.
How does this work with two three-way wall switches? Can we have one on each side of the room?
A. The Hunter 27183 is designed to be a single-source control for your ceiling fan. Two controllers for one fan will not work with this wall controller.
Will one remote control two fans?
A. The Hunter 27183 will have to be used with individual remotes.
Does this wall mount need a direct source of electric or is it remote?
A. The Hunter 27183 is a hard-wired control.
Will this controller work with the Hunter 22640?
The Hunter 27183 is a nearly universal wall switch for Hunter fans. However I could not find any information on Hunter 22640; it may be a latter model or discontinued item. It would be best to contact Hunter directly to double check compatibility.
