800 CFM 30 Inch Wide Stainless Steel Under Cabinet Range Hood with Four Speed Electronic Controls and QuietMode- from the CH-122-SQ Collection
There is no smell of cooking in the house. Before buying this hood, I used to have lingering cooking odor in the house for days after I cooked. Now I can hardly smell anything even while I am cooking. It is a small package but works wonders. Fits nicely over the stove, not bulky, looks like any other ordinary hood range. Saves cabinet space as a small cabinet can be installed above the hood. The installer did find it difficult to install but was manageable. This was recommended by a friend, and I am really pleased with my purchase. The hood is noisy at the highest level, but it works so well, that it is a small price to pay.

Great Vent - replaced the microwave
This is one of the best investments we've made. We shopped everywhere such as Home Depot, Lowes, various online vendors and none carried a product which met the specifications as Kobe's CH2230SQ did. I reviewed the comments and the product and decided to order and have it installed by a professional. The product is wonderful. No more messey cabinets from frying or using the gas for cooking. The only problem which I along with other reviewers have is the control buttons. I hope that Kobe takes the reviews seriously and makes the next generation of CH2230SQ a little more user friendly. Other than that I would absolutely recommend this product to friends and family.

Got what I expected
This hood really is what it is advertised to be. Clean and good looking, very functional, and quiet. The loudest of the settings - and strongest - is only as loud as the under-the-counter microwave fan it is replacing and is many times stronger. The lowest and quietest setting - which is very quiet - is as strong as the fan it is replacing. One note: Installation is not well described in the manual. Two suggestions: drill holes in the fan to mount - DO NOT try to knock out the holes - call customer service, they will tell you the same thing. Also, strongly consider using fender washers to help add support. Technically this isn't required but I sure felt a whole lot better about it.

The one I received is obviously a second-hand. The cover of top vent exhaust is not new (see pic). Some back stuff is out of shape as well (see pic). One of the turb impeller does not work since it keep blocked by the protector. We manaually fix it but not sure how long it can sustain. Seems there is no way to return (and I anyway have spend $100 to install so don't want to waste that money and time). But I won't recommend it.

Excellent range hood!
This fan works great and looks great. It is very quiet on the first two settings, but gets louder on the last two. Installation was easy, you do have to read the instructions. The quality of the stainless steel is beautiful. VentingDirect was excellent, the range hood was delivered in two days! We are very happy with this purchase.

I replaced an over the range microwave with this hood as part of a kitchen renovation. This unit was easy to install and looks to be well built. The range of speeds is well thought out with the first 2 being the most used. Noise levels on the first two setting are great. At Level 1, it is hard to hear any air noise at all, and Level 2 is very acceptable. The higher levels are, of course louder but not used for very long or very often. I took the opportunity to take some dB readings of this hood compared to my microhood.
QuietMode - 380cfm, 1.0 sones = 51dB
Low Speed - 560 cfm, 3.0 sones = 66 dB
Medium Speed - 720 cfm, 4.5 sones = 74dB
High Speed - 800 cfm, 4.8 sones = 75 dB.
Low - 150 cfm = 70 dB
High - 300 cfm = 71 dB
As you can see there is a significant reduction in noise at the first two levels. The overall sound quality is much more pleasant as well.
Regarding the effectiveness, this hood performs well for its depth and capture area. Given my limitations in hood hight, I needed one that was 6-8" tall. This seriously limits the capture area, but for what it is, I am very pleased. If you can fit a taller hood, you will see better results.
The only negatives are the way the control buttons are set up. You have to hit the power button first, then one of two fan buttons. Both start the hood off at level 2. The button on the right moves the fan settings to the left (2-1-4-3) the button on the left moves the fan settings to the right (2-3-4-1). Not sure what they were thinking. You get used to it though. Also, the power cord is rather short and is set up to be directly wired. I ended up using wire nuts to connect to a replacement electrical cord to get the length I needed and to plug into the outlet I had for the microhood.
All in all, I am very pleased with this hood. It works well for its size and is very quite on the most used settings. Would recommend to anyone who is replacing a microhood or just needs a shorter hood.

The hood is nice. It is not as quiet as I had hoped after reading all of the other reviews. I did not expect it to be whisper quiet but that is what everybody made it sound like. I wonder what type of hood they have had before. So on high it is rather loud. On the lowest setting it is true you cannot hear it, i would argue also though that it is not really doing much if anything. Oh well. Overall it is a good product. It looks very nice. Ours came with a dented in side. I was able to pop it out. There was a little deformation but not enough to put up a fuss about although we did almost send it back for this.

I would return it if I can
It looks nice and works but not great.
Compare to my old PACAir hood which I have used for more than 15 years:
1. The Kobe hood is quieter, especially on low speed.
2. Two air intake on Kobe are too close to the wall and not fit good for my GE gas range. (Kobe does not tell you on its spec sheet)
3. There is a small air leak around the plastic cover on the Kobe hood.
4. On Kobe, the pre-defined 6"-round top opening is about 1/4" bigger then 6". I would prefer the other way that the opening is a little smaller than my 6" air duct.
The return policy on this site clear indicates that the product cannot be returned after installation. Otherwise I'll return it.

Seconbd Generation model even better.
After extensive research, We installed this jewel in our New Orleans home and used it for 6 years, to our great satisfaction. After hurrican Katrina we move to Arkansas, and decided to replace the microwave with one like it. At first we were disappointed when the second generation Kobe arrived with a lot of changes. Little did we realize the changes were substantial improvements over the earlier mlodel. The microwave now resides in our utility room and the Kobe range keeps out home free from the strong odors of the Cajun recipes we love. The only negative I can even remotely think of is: It runs so quietly I sometimes forget to turn it off, which tends to ruffle my little Cajun sweetheart who is also my wife.

Best compact kitchen vent
We had an old broan vent which was noisy and didn't do much. We needed something we could retro fit but provided close to commercial results. I read many reviews and spoke the with venting direct staff who owned this unit. It does everything well. The one downside is that the controls are not intuitive and you can't just turn the lights on without turning on the fan. We did have one small problem and Kobe immediately sent a replacement part. Love this product. We've had if for several months and everytime we do serious frying we comment to each other how great it is.
