Great Product--once you get it installed
This range hood looks great and performs wonderfully. Beware of the "easy installation note". It was anything but easy and you have to guess as to what type of screws to use...they're not supplied and they don't tell you.

Works Great! Looks Great!
I selected this fan to get higher power and to have simple, professional, good looks and it performed on all counts. Very satisfied with the product and would definately recommend to a friend. Installation instructions could be a bit clearer, but just read carefully or get a pro to do it.

KOBE CH2230SQB (Range Hood)
What can I say, installation was a breeze (directly out of the back wall) and the unit works GREAT! The controls are easy to use and the auto off is a really neat feature. The lights light up the stoves cooking area perfect. Low setting is very quiet and sucks excellent in this setting with 3 more to spare. That, along with the way it is designed, makes our kitchen qualify for a "Higher End" now. Worth every penny spent.

Works on but somewhat disappointed
We purchased this hood to replace our existing hood, because we feel it's not as powerful as we'd like and too noisy. We picked this model due to it's very good specs on noise level. We decided to install ourselves because the existing hood already have pipes and duct hole drilled. Installation is very hard. First surprise is that it did not come with screws. The manual says I have to buy separately. You will also need to have a heavy metal capable drill to create the holes to hang the hood, although the manual made it sounds like an easy poke. Unlike my existing hood where motor can be separated from the hood top making it easy to hung and disassemble, this thing is a single very heavy piece, so holding it in position to secure it is pretty challenge even for two men.
As far as the hood itself, yes, it's very quiet at quiet model, but it does not do much either. You almost always have to use the high level, which is quite noise. The venting effect is about same as our old 500 CFM hood, which is probably caused by the filter.
So it works, but probably not good enough to justify to replacing an existing working hood. The positive side is that it does look pretty good in the kitchen, and that is what we are using to tell ourselves why we spent this money to get rid of our old one.

Good hood
I am very happy with the range hood. It is very well made and it looks great. It is very quiet at the lower settings and very powerful at the higher settings. Definitely a quality product.
I installed this hood myself and there was only one problem I ran into. I had to drill (4) new holes in the top of the hood due to the fact that the holes provided lined up perfectly with the joint between the sides and the bottom of the kitchen cabinet I was mounting it to. I believe that this would be a common problem with most cabinets. Maybe kitchen cabinets in Japan are constructed differently (?).
If you run into the same problem and have to drill new holes, since it's made from stainless steel, remember to run your variable speed drill at extremely low rpm and apply a lot of pressure using a very sharp drill bit. High rpm and/or a dull drill bit will create too much heat which will work-harden the stainless steel making it virtually impossible to penetrate.

A Very Nice Hood!
This is a good performing hood, quiet and attractive. Aside from the lousy installation manual and lack of convenient installation parts, I am pleased with it.
VentingDirect is an excellent vendor and I would not hesitate to recommend purchasing from them.
As for the installation, whoever it is at Kobe that designs their hoods, especially the location of the screw knock-outs, should be condemned to spend eternity installing them with these hole locations! Be prepared to drill holes in stainless steel to relocate the mounting holes to a better location [with a well oiled titanium nitride or cobalt drill bit]. Also, a lot of cutting of the supplied [plastic] universal adapter with a sharp cutter is required to modify it for your installation. You would think that for 800+ bucks, Kobe would supply you with a decent installation kit!
