Kwikset Single Cylinder Deadbolt featuring SmartKey from the 780 Series

This single cylinder deadbolt, equipped with SmartKey technology, is the perfect choice for keeping your home or business safe. Single Cylinder means you lock the deadbolt using a key from the exterior and using a thumb-turn from the interior.

  • Key it Yourself: Lock is rekeyable by using the included learn tool in less than 30 seconds without removing the lock from the door.
  • SmartKey cylinders also feature a stainless steel side locking bar, racks and pins for increased strength and security.
  • Bumpguard: Patented side locking bar technology replaces a traditions pin & tumbler design to protect against lock bumping.
  • Drill Resistance: Cylinder uses two steel balls inserted into the front of the key face to resist attack from drilling.
  • Smart Key Cylinders are 5-pin, and will not key alike to 6-pin cylinders.
  • Features a fully adjustable latch & deadbolt to fit all standard door preparations
  • ANSI/BHMA Grade 2 Security
  • Add to a keyed knob or lever for additional security
  • Lifetime mechanical and finish warranty
  • SmartKey cylinders feature a stainless steel side locking bar, racks and pins for increased strength and security
  • Patented side locking bar technology offers improved security by protecting against lock bumping, an attack technique used to defeat conventional pin & tumbler locks.
  • For Door Thicknesses from 1-7/8" to 2-1/4", Thick Door Kit 81691 is required.

Single Cylinder Deadbolt with SmartKey from the 780 Series 4 5 3 3
Fair Not impressed and would not choose Kwikset again. Some of the locks have trouble turning with the key. Constantly jamming up. We are removing them very soon. July 4, 2011
Easy First of all, Handlesets.com was a great place to purchase these - they have amazing prices - I looked at the Big Box Stores first, and those prices were incredibly high (at least 30-50% higher than here). Replaced all the deadbolts in my house with these, keyed the same way. Easy to install. Very satisfied with my purchase. November 29, 2010
High Security Lock High Security Lock, comes with the large 4 screw stike plate. Smart Key great feature. Allows quick rekeying. January 1, 2010

Is the Venetian finish suitable for outdoors, will this lock be capable of being keyed to a different brand- or must we stick with Kwickset

The Kwikset 780-S is designed to be on the external side of doors, which can be exposed to the elements. Mind that the Venetian Bronze finish is a living finish, however. It will change and alter over time and with use. Kwikset is a brand specific keying. So, if you plan on using another brand, that brand must use a Kwikset keyway.

What is a Cross Bore? Is that the circular opening cut in the door?

The cross bore is the main hole that is bored into a door in which door hardware is mounted. The most common cross-bore measurement is 2-1/8".

Can the tumblers (kwikset lock) be changed to accommodate a different key when original keys have been lost or stolen?

The Kwikset 780-S has the Key it Yourself feature: Lock is rekeyable by using the included learn tool in less than 30 seconds without removing the lock from the door.

Can kwikset lock be modified to accept a different key or must the lock be replaced when keys have been lost or stolen?

This model has the Smart key option; The Key it Yourself feature: Lock is rekeyable by using the included learn tool in less than 30 seconds without removing the lock from the door.

can the 780-s be masterkeyed?

No, but the 780 can be master keyed.

Will it fit 2 1/4" door with harware that comes with it? Do you have hardware to make it fit a 2 1/2" door

The Kwikset 780-S will fit a door thickness of 1 3/4". The Kwikset 81691 thick door kit will allow it to work on a door up to 2 1/4". There is no part that makes it compatible with anything thicker.

Will this work on a 2-1/4" door?

The Kwikset 780-S will work for a 2-1/4" thick door if you use the Kwikset 81691 thick door kit.

Why don't we show the price?

Like many retailers, Build.com can choose to set its own prices independently. And even though manufacturers require Build.com and other retailers to display a product's "minimum advertised price" (or MAP), the retailer can choose to sell for less than that. But the price must be conveyed in other ways, and each individual manufacturer's MAP policy determines where the price can be seen.

To see the price for this product at Build.com, you'll need to place it in your shopping cart, and maybe even proceed to final checkout. If you're not ready to buy the product, simply remove it from the cart.

Build.com apologizes for any inconvenience. We'd just like to offer you the chance to save extra money while we adhere to manufacturers' MAP policies. Build.com is also working to educate manufacturers on how their policies impact customers and their buying behavior.
