SmartKey cylinders also feature a stainless steel side locking bar, racks and pins for increased strength and security.

XLNT product and service Kwikset Smart Key is wonderful - was a cinch to match my existing locksets. Coming up with the correct combination of handleset, deadbolt & interior knob is somewhat confusing in this range of Kwikset products (the big box stores were of no help at all, and other on-line vendors didn't have a clue...), but the Handleset.com folks were terrific - phone inquiry was immediately answered (accurately), and product arrived within 2 working days - WOW! Very happy with the entire experience - time will tell how the unit holds up in a coastal salt-air environment... mhprd May 20, 2010

Can a Kwikset smart key lock be rekeyed to accept a key from a Dexter lock?

The Kwikset 800HE-LIP-S cannot accept a Schlage keyway, which Dexter uses.

Can the core be changed to accept a schlage key?

The Kwikset 800HE-LIP-S cannot be changed to a Schlage keyway. It is only available with the Kwikset keyway.
