Really nice sconces I was looking for special sconces to add to my "Colorado Lodge" design for our family room. These are perfect. They are at the bar area and we put them on a dimmer switch. Perfect.!! November 14, 2010

Can this light be mounted horizontally?

Thank you for your question! This should be able to be mounted horizontally.

How does the light mount? Is the mount directly in the center of the light?

The Minka Lavery ML 1972 has the mounting assembly directly in the center of the fixture.

If this light was mounted high on a wall, (about 10 feet) when you looked up would you see a glass bottom or the lamp base - in other words is the bottom open or protected with opaque glass

What does ambient lighting mean?

Ambient lighting usually refers to sources of light that are already available naturally, like the sun and the moon. Rather than say "task oriented", which is more like a spot light to highlight a specific area.
