Do you have a towel bar that can be used inside the shower
Towel bars are not designed for use inside a shower, what is usually used in those cases is an ADA grab bar like the Moen LR8916.

Pretty, easy to install
I purchased oil-rubbed-bronze door handles, kitchen knobs, bath fixtures, and lights for my entire house. I wanted high end. The Brantford ORB is very pretty, with a speckled brown finish and a Chess "pawn" shape. The brackets install very easily, with a tap of a rubber mallet at the end that snaps the the outside shell to the mounting hardware in such a way that there is no wobble. The mounting hardware includes quality Molly bolts. I didn't use the bolts, as this towel bar exactly fits the 18" Molly holes previously drilled by my builder.

can the bar be shortened and then inserted in the end pieces?
The Moen YB2218 can be cut to your desired length and reinserted into the end pieces.
What is the diameter of this towel bar?
The YB2218 is 5/8" in diameter. This was confirmed by Moen customer service.
