Tile Material

There are two main Tile Materials to consider, those that are ceramic in origin (Ceramics, Porcelains, and Vitreous China) and those that are Stone. Ceramics are typically cheaper and easier to maintain, where as Stone tiles have great durability and character to each piece.

Installation Location

There are 3 installation locations, above grade, on grade and below grade. Above grade is any installation that is made above the foundation of the home. On grade is any installation made on the foundation level of the home. Below grade refers to any install taking place below the foundation of the home, or the basement.

Flooring Pricing is calculated on price per Square Foot, keep this in mind when considering your budget. Divide your maximum budget by your necessary square footage to find the highest price per square foot you can afford.

Shape of Tile

This is the installed length of a single piece of flooring, be it Tile or Wood Flooring; this is the longer physical dimension of the piece when laying flat.

This is the installed width of a single piece of flooring, be it Tile or Wood Flooring; this is the smaller physical dimension of the piece when laying flat.

Installation Type

  • Floating Floors utilize boards that are glued or snapped together and not attached to the subfloor; this style of flooring is the easiest for a DIY project because most often it requires no glue or nails for installation. One downside to Floating Flooring is that this flooring type doesn't add very much value to your home.
  • Glue Down flooring is glued down to the subfloor and is typical of engineered hardwood flooring.
  • Nail Down flooring requires a nailing process to secure the wood planks in place, this style is used commonly for solid hardwood flooring.
  • Staple Down flooring is very similar to Nail Down in that individual pieces are more easily stabled to the subfloor and are not interlocking.
