Little flimsy for the cost. It looks fine installed, although it just felt a little flimsy for the cost. One of the arms was bent when we received it - we just bent it back into place rather than go through the hassle of returning it. November 21, 2010

Do you have to use any of the 12" bars, meaning one can mount the main lighting component directly at the ceiling mount? Will be hanging over kitchen counter, and don't want too low over 'work space'.

No, you do not have to use the provided 12" downrods. The 27" min. height is without the use of a downrod.
