The Progress Lighting P2743 should sit flush on the wall. The only reason it may stick out is if the junction box sticks out of the wall. This light has been installed improperly if it is not flush with the wall.
The Progress Lighting P2743 in Venetian Bronze finish will have hints of what I would say is copper tone then a dark brown color as well.

The Progress Lighting P2743 is versatile because it can be adjusted to up or down lighting. It depends on the lighting in your bathroom, windows, etc. But these take 3 100w bulbs, which will provide a fair amount of light for doing make up, etc. However, down lighting will provide more direct light as the bulbs are exposed closer to your mirror/vanity area.
