4538 CFM Quiet Cool Whole House Exhaust Fan
This Quiet Cool 4500 Series fan is an innovative whole house fan that has none of the disadvantages of Type I and Type II fans. It's big advantage is that it is not mounted to the ceiling but instead is suspended in the attic with straps from the roof rafters. It's connected to an attractive ceiling grill with a patented acoustical insulated flexible duct, thus eliminating all vibration, rattle and noise in the house. It is so quiet in operation that it can be installed in a bedroom or sleeping room without a sleeping person being able to hear it.
This cleverly engineered system can be installed almost anywhere in a ceiling or vertical wall in less than 1/3 the time it takes to install a Type I or Type II whole house fan. It has a damper with insulated doors that prevents cold air intrusion in the wintertime. One QC-4500 performs better than one Type II whole house fan in all respects, but QC recommends that one QC-4500 be installed for each 1500 Sq. ft. of living space to obtain the cooling breeze of a Type I whole house fan. This also allows the cooling and ventilation to take affect even with the bedroom door closed as long as a window is open.
Quiet Cool fan systems are the best choice for homeowners based on energy savings, high quality, value, ability to move a large volume of air, ease of installation, aesthetic appearance, versatility, and above all, quiet operation.
Air Intake Grill Dimensions: 16" Width x 38" Length

By far best home upgradeThis is the easiest product to install to help cool your home. Best value and max bang for your buck. This is my second one on second home. If you can handle the heat till it's cool outside, you won't have to turn on your AC (save the cost of running the spendy unit). I lived in Murrieta, CA where it can be over 100 degrees during the day. Last year we ran the AC 15 times (when it got too hot inside) because the Quiet Cool works so well. Run it in the morning to bring in cool air in, then close all window to keep it in. Enjoy

Great ProductI have installed 5 whole house fans over the past 30 years, the Quiet Cool is the quietest and is the least visually obtrusive of any whole house fan that I have used. This fan is also very easy to install.

Very Quiet fansNot too hard to install. Install Instructions need to be more detailed for us DIY'ers. No mention that a "box" or ceiling joists must be installed or used. Unit is very Quiet. I installed it in November 2012 and have not really had a need to use it, as it is not hot right now, to see if it works. I hope it does for the price. Very well made.

Great FanExcellent replacement for my old whole house fan. I've never seen one of these and so was relying completely on online reviews and research. It worked out! The fan works great, easy to install, and almost silent. Excellent!!

Does this include everything such as mounting hardware and a control switch?
A. The QC Manufacturing QC4500 house fan does include the necessary mounting hardware. However, you will need to purchase the controls separately. You can choose between the wall switch and timer (which is recommended as long as you have an electrician installing the unit) or the remote control (which is an easier install if you are planning on doing it yourself). If you want the timer wall switch, you will need the IT-30070 and the IT-30020. If you want to go with the remote system, you will need the IT-32020 and two of the IT-32000 (one for each motor).
Can I hook this fan up to a variable speed switch?
A. The QC Manufacturing QC4500 can be hooked up with a variable fan speed control.
Do I need to knock out a hole in the attic to vent the air?? such as a louvered vent of some sort?
A. It is recommended to vent this unit to the outside, so yes you will want a penetration through either a wall or the roof.
Does everything come with it? Is there a cover for the vent in the winter time? How do you turn it on/off? Does it have a remote?
A. The QC Manufacturing QC4500 includes an insulated damper which prevents cold intrusion in winter. The controls for the QC4500 are sold separately, but you do have several options, including a simple on/off switch you mount on the wall like a light switch, timers, and remote control options as well. All of QC's control options can be found here.
