Dated and mismatched I bought this door knob b/c we're upgrading all our old yellow brass knobs to black, colonial knobs. There was no detailed photo available of this product in black so I'll fill you in. The keyhole is yellow brass...while the latch is brushed nickel. It looks like we tried to mix and match. It's ugly. Keep looking. June 12, 2011

Good but Need More Keys Good quality. Easy to install. Bought several matching knobs and deadbolts all keyed the same. Only gripe is that I only received 2 keys total- would have expected a few spare keys since I bought a total of six locks. December 28, 2009

Keyed alike It's wonderful being able to get locks keyed alike for no additional cost or effort. Don't use the key alike code on the outside of the box! Use the code number from one of the original master Schlage keys. 4 stars as it's just a basic lockset, just what I ordered. December 20, 2009

Very Nice Lockset I bought the F-Series Plymouth lock set in Matte Black when we redid our front & side entryways to replace two old locksets. These new sets are far superior to our old locks in that the operation is much smoother, and the finish is fabulous! Being able to get them in matching keys is just the icing on the cake! Brass entry lock High quality entry knobset of heavy brass. Easy to install in less than 15 minutes. I also ordered an electronic deadbolt and had then both keyed the same. Delivery was fast and the cost reasonable. The only flaw that I found is that when the lock is engaged, you can still turn the inside knob, so beware, you can lock yourself out by accident. Be advised that there are coupons out there to save you money and get free delivery, January 1, 2008

Panic proof = locked out The F51 has a panic proof feature meaning that you can open it from the inside even if it is locked. Nice thought, but the lock doesn't automatically unlock. It's really really easy to get locked out of the house. NOTE: Some areas have a building code that require this type of lock. If you want to NOT be able to open the door from the inside when it is locked, look at the F54 series. Same thing as the F51 just without the panic proof feature. December 19, 2007

Fast and easy replacement We purchased these to replace outdated brass doorknobs in our home. They were easy to install (and I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant) and look and work great. Now we don't have to worry about our toddler locking herself in a room and us not having a key. December 10, 2007

All of the door locks on my house are keyed alike. One of them just broke and I need to replace it. Can I buy a new doorknob keyed the same as the rest ? (there is a five digit + one letter code on the key)

With that code, that would be fine. When purchasing the replacement, in the key code option of the keying, simply enter the 5 digits and the warehouse will key it accordingly. Thanks!

I purchased this door set from you guys, but now I see that the distance from the door face plate to the centre of the door handle is 4". I was hoping to use the existing Schlage door bolt, but turns out it uses a very different system. How can I get a 4" bolt or would the 5" work?

The Schlage F51-PLY would have to work with a 4" door bolt.

The model number for the 5" extension for a 2 3/4" backset is 43-005. The model number for the 5" extension for the 2 3/8" backset is 41-005.

What finishes are recommended for durability in a near-ocean environment?

If the Schlage F51-PLY is going to be near the ocean you definitely will not want to go with any of the bronze finishes as those will oxidize the quickest. The best finishes that we have to choose from for a near-ocean installation would be antique brass, satin nickel, and antique pewter.
