The Sea Gull Lighting 6018 uses medium based bulbs, so long as the bubl fits and meets the max wattage rating, there is nothing stopping you from using a different color. Thank you for your question.

Elegant simplicity
The lighting fixture is modern and elegant. The simple globe adds decor to any contemporary room, as well as it is suited for a mid-century homes. I would have given it 5 stars, except for the low thickness of the glass that shows the filament of the light bulb inside. So you should use only frosted bulbs, in my opinion.

what does it mean that the base is required (not included)
That is referencing the 1 150w medium base bulb that is required for this fixture but not included.
