Can this light have a bulb with lower wattage? 50 watts is like an airplane runway in the application I need!

The WAC Lighting DL-214 can be used with a lower wattage bulb.

Can this light use a dimmable halogen bulb?

The WAC Lighting DL-214 uses MR16G or MR11G or with lens clip. As long as the bulb is a specified dimmable, you will be able to dim the light.

Does this light, or similar WAC lighting, have a switch that would allow it to be as a bedside lamp? We would want something that could be easily turned off from bed.

The lights with 50w bulbs seem to get very hot, how long can I safely keep them on?

The WAC Lighting DL-214 can be left on for quite some time (few days at a time) without and risk of the light burning out or causing damage.
