Westinghouse Comet Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Fan I bought three of this style fan in pewter and in black. The sleek, contemporary styling works beautifully in our sleek, contemporary home. It is quiet. Casts a good, mellow light. Moves a nice amount of air. It's been admired by many people who have come to visit our new house. I am happy to recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very stylish This fan looks great and runs smooth and quiet. Nice style for my teenagers room, but would feel confident putting it any where.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great fan! This fan is awesome! easy to install good lighting and nice speeds. all in all good buy! the only thing that we would wish for is that the slow speed were a bit smaller but no big deal.

  • I see that this comes with a 6" downrod. Can I get a shorter rod?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet is only going to come with the 6" down rod. That is the clearance needed for the pitch of the blades.
  • I will be attaching the fan to a slanted beam on the ceiling. Do I need a special adapter for this?

    A. It depends on the degree of slope. Without an adapter this fan can be mounted up to an 18 degree angle.
  • is the fan reversible? are there specs available for energy usage and air volume ?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet is reversible - it can go both clockwise and counter clockwise.

Airflow for the Comet is 5199 cubic feet per minute
Electricity usage without including the bulb is 61 watts
The Comet moves 85 cubic feet of air per minute per watt

  • What kind of bulbs does this fan use?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet uses two Candelabra Base Fan Lamps with a 40w max.
  • What size is the downrod?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet comes with a 6" downrod.
  • Are there local on/off switches for the fan and light controls?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet ceiling fan has a pull chain to turn the light on and off and a second pull chain to select the fan speed. It is compatible with the Westinghouse 77870 remote control, which can operate all of these functions.
  • Can this fan be mounted on a slightly pitched ceiling?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet is compatible with a sloped ceiling.
  • Can you attach the fan base directly to the ceiling or do you have to use the short attached pole as shown in the photo online for the Westinghouse Comet Ceiling fan?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet has to be used with the downrod as it is not a flush mount fan.
  • do you have to use the light or is there a cap?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet light kit is not removeable. Westinghouse does not make a cap for the Comet to use in place of the light kit.
  • Is there room to substitute a CF light bulb for the incandescent?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet light would not fit a compact fluorescent bulb.
  • Is this an energy star compliant fixture and what is the fan motor wattage?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet fan motor runs at 61 watts and is not an Energy Star fixture.
  • looking at the picture..what size is the rod that is attached to the ceiling fan. i like this fan but i want to make sure that i order the right size rod. the smaller one pictured is about what i have on my current fan.

    A. The Westinghouse Comet comes with a 6 inch long downrod. There are longer ones available if needed.
  • How do you attach the fan blades to the motor once the motor is attached to the ceiling?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet should be assembled before mounting. If this is not an option; the blades would have to be mounted prior to light kit.
  • what is the blade clearance from ceiling (at closest to ceiling mounting option) ?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet has a 13 inch clearance.
  • can i get this in black matte & total height from ceiling to bottom of light with smallest down rod is that 4 or 6 inches?

    A. The size of the down rod refers to the length of the rod only, not to the bottom of the light.
  • What is the depth of the fan when installed (from ceiling to bottom of light)?

    A. The depth of the Westinghouse Comet is 14 1/4" including the 4" downrod.
  • Does this product have a pull chain, or is it operated by a light switch only?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet does have a pull chain for turning on/off both the light and the fan.
  • Is the maximum light 40 watts/bulb for a total of 80 watts?

    A. There are two 40w bulbs on the Westinghouse Comet Ceiling Fan making a total of 80 watts of lighting.
  • what is the CFM?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet is specified to move 5000 CFM.
  • I understand that this unit has pull chains for light and blade power. Is there a wall swtich available instead of using pull chains?

    A.

Yes, the Westinghouse Comet can be used with the Westinghouse 77873 wall control.

  • Is the white finish matte or glossy?

    A.

The Westinghouse Comet fan in white is glossy.

  • How do you attach the fan blades to the motor once the motor is attached to the ceiling?

    A. The Westinghouse Comet should be assembled before mounting. If this is not an option; the blades would have to be mounted prior to light kit.
