Good Replacement Purchase
My wife and I needed to do something about our old underperforming and inexpensive NuTone range hood.
The NuTone wasn’t performing well because it wasn’t pulling out fumes very well. Our house is small and occasionally the smoke detector in the hallway would go off. We needed to open windows and/or doors to cross ventilate the kitchen in order to stop the fumes from moving throughout our house.
Shopping around we found the Breeze II, Zephyr AK1200, at Venting Direct. This hood looked like it was designed as a replacement to fit into the spot our old one occupied and the CFM rating was much higher than the one we had.
We purchased it and installed it ourselves. It went in with minimum additional work. It performs well and it is able to remove all the fumes. We no longer have to cross ventilate and our smoke detector doesn’t go off anymore. In addition, it’s a lot quieter than our old one, it looks better and its lighting is great.
It was an good choice to replace our old underperforming range hood.

Pretty Good
I ordered this for a client looking for an exhaust hood for her vacation rental. She is very happy with the CFM's, functions, and aesthetics. It cost me about six hours of the electrician's time to snake a new dedicated electrical line to the new hood from the basement. The duct work was already set up.
Pro: For the money and the CFM's, this is about as good as it gets. I'd recommend.
Con: Super Quiet is advertised, but when the unit is on high, it is not. However, you can still have a conversation. On low, the unit is reasonably quiet.

this is a good choice
Size was a factor for me, and this hood had the slimmest height of this style.
Ultra quiet is not correct though, it does not make racket like all my prior hoods, but I hoped for a whisper sound when it's on low. It does draw air very affectively, and even better when I open the opposite window an inch, because the house is pretty tight.
I'm short, so I am using 25 watt bulbs instead of 40 because they were right in my eyes, and 25 is plenty bright enough. Lots of buttons give every choice of fan speed and brightness. In the same instance I would order this fan again :)

Below Average
Although Venting Direct processed my order quickly and efficiently, the product did not deliver. I had this Zephyr installed professionally according to instructions, yet it is loud (as loud as the $89 Broan) and does not remove steam never mind odors. Very disappointing.

Excellent Product
I'm completely satisfied with the quality of this hood. On a limited budget, but still interested in quality, research indicated that Zephyr were among the best reasonably priced units. The Ak 1200 fit my needs perfectly. I looks sleek and well made in it's space and is a fine accent to our remodeling. It is definately several steps above comparably priced units at some big market retailers. I would highly recommend this item with a small exception that the control buttons, being under the edge of the hood, take some practice to get used ot their location without bending over (perhaps too low if the range is on!) Also, be sure you pick the one you want and in the right size because Zephyr charges a 20% restocking fee. I did make that mistake and still recommend Zephyr.

Can it be installed non ducted?
The Zephyr AK1200 can be installed without ducting it. However you will need to purchase a Recirculating kit -0AK11-21001 and Replacement filter - 0AK11-20001.
Can this be attached to a retangular duct?
The Zephyr AK1200 attaches to 3-1/4" x 10" rectangular ducting.
What are the CFM and sones for the lowest fan setting?
The lowest setting on the Zephyr AK1200 will produce a CFM of around 125, and sones will be around 1.5.
Can this model be converted to ductless?
The Zephyr AK1200 can be converted to a ductless fan with the Zephyr OAK11-21001 Recirculating Kit.
I need a unit that is 6" deep when ductless.
The Zephyr AK1200 can be converted to a ductless fan with the Zephyr OAK11-21001. The conversion kit does not add to the size of the Zephyr AK1200.
Can it be supplied with non-halogen bulbs ?
No, The Zephyr AK1200 is fitted for halogen bulbs only.
Where are the lights postioned and how many watts are they?
The lighting on the Zephyr AK1200 is positioned about 4" back from the front edge of the range hood. It has standard opaque diffuser shades to provide adequate light over the entire stove top. The Zephyr AK1200 uses 40 watt incandescent bulbs.
