New and Neutral with Deb and Danelle
Accenting antique centerpieces with modern fixtures means finding the “old” in anything “new” with their remodels.
Deb and Danelle are a wife-and-wife team with the experience of 14 home renovations behind their brand. Together, they chronicle life in their renovated colonial home and create new ways to work with familiar staples of antique design.
“Our signature design style is antiques and vintage items. We love to incorporate them into our everyday lives. We tend to gravitate toward neutral colors in our home, creating a very calm environment.” – Deb & Danelle
The appearance of the older pieces is no accident. It’s an intentional stylistic theme that she brings into every project. “I normally have at least ONE focal point added to the structure of each room, whether it be an antique door, a large antique light fixture, or a large leaded glass window,” says Danelle Harvey.
In this bathroom update, Deb and Danelle accented their antique-style chandelier with golden bronze hardware in the crisp, clean lines of the shower enclosure. The clear glass panes and rounded textured door handle are modern answers to the candle-shaped lighting, while the barn-door style slider adds shine to the vintage look of an old-fashioned pully system.
“We like to splurge on large classic antique pieces for projects that will make a big statement. It may be in a piece of furniture, a door, or a window. The things we like to save money on are home decor pieces that will come and go. Those items can be seasonal.” – Deb & Danelle
The vintage-focus can be a challenge when taking on the task of updating a bathroom. The space must match the vibe of a classic, rustic home, but still maintain the functionality of a modern, efficient, fully functional bathroom. Updating and blending old looks to new, fresh styles means finding hardware, fixtures, and accents that share common lines and finishes.
The neutral color palette in Deb and Danelle’s projects help to showcase the natural colors of the antiques that are the common centerpiece of their spaces. Their designs make striking use of a white background, from white walls to white floors, that make even subtle accent colors seem to pop. They reveal a depth of shades and textures, calling attention to wood tones and earthy colors, from clay creams to rustic metals.
“Our spaces must feel comfy and cozy but also be functional. So if we are using antique items, they must be in excellent working order.” Form and function are carefully planned into their projects. The economical color choices and careful focal point of a room also helps to make the completed space feel relaxed and welcoming, using color and texture to open an area with a lot of unique visual interest.
