Creating and Accessing Projects

The first step to get organized is to create a Project. There is no limit to how many Projects you can have, or how many groups you can break it into. Our recommended structure for most homeowners is a Project for your home and labeling each room you are working on.

Setting Up a Project

  1. Navigate to build.com/projects and click the box that says “Design Your Dream Home”
  2. Select which rooms you would like to start with (you can add more later!) and name your Project.
  3. Press the “Create” button and your Project will appear on the Project Landing Page
  4. Click anywhere on your Project Tile or name and it will take you into that Project

Creating and Naming New Groups

You can create as many groups as you want in your Project. To create a new group, click on the + New Group button in the Project Toolbar and select the new room group you would like to add. A group can easily be re-named by clicking the edit link to the right of the group name.

Accessing Your Projects

The My Projects button in the header is the easiest way on the site to get back to your Projects. You can navigate directly into your most recent Projects from that button or click View More to be taken back to your Project Landing Page to view all your Projects.

Placing Orders

When you're working on a home improvement project, it's important to stay organized. One of the best ways to do this is to order directly from your Project so the order is also saved. This allows you at-a-glance visibility into what has been purchased, what has shipped, and what still needs to be ordered.

Ordering Items from Your Project

The best way to accurately keep track of what Project items have been purchased, check on tracking and set up returns is to place orders directly from your Project. This will ensure items are not duplicated and make sure your order is saved directly to your Project from the start.

  1. To order just a few items at once, you can simply click the Add to Cart button on each product tile in your Project Shopping List
  2. To bulk add items, select the check boxes in the top left-hand corner of the product tiles or groups, and click the Add to Cart button in the Project Toolbar.
  3. To add all items from your Project to the cart at once, click the Add All to Cart button at the bottom of your Project Shopping List, by the Project Totals.

Saving a Project from the Cart

If you added your items directly to the cart, but want do associate them to a Project during checkout, use our Cart Tools feature to quickly do so. Be aware, if the items in your cart are already in your project, they will be added again, so make sure to check your quantities in the Project.

  1. Click the Cart Tools dropdown, found below your last item in the cart
  2. Click the Save to Project option.
  3. Selecting an existing Project or creating a new Project will save that order into your Project and mark the items as purchased.

Project Landing Page

If you're managing multiple projects, keeping them organized and up-to-date can be a challenge. Thankfully, the Project Landing Page makes it easy to navigate between Projects and perform important tasks like copying and deleting a project.

Copying a Project

When you Copy a Project, all your groups and items will be transferred to a new Project, but any comments, orders, or team members will not be brought over. This is a great way to template projects where you may buy the same items repeatedly while keeping your orders attached to the correct job.

  1. On the Project Landing Page, navigate to the Project you want to make a copy of
  2. Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the Project Tile
  3. Click Copy. A new Project will be created at the top of your list of Projects

Deleting a Project

Deleting a Project will not affect any orders saved to the Project, but it will be removed from your Project list and any other Team member that may have access to it. Only the Owner/Creator of a Project has permission to delete that Project.

  1. On the Project Landing Page, navigate to the Project you want to delete
  2. Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the Project Tile
  3. Click Delete. A confirmation modal needs to be accepted ensuring you want to delete your Project, as this action cannot be undone.

Leaving a Project

Projects that you have been invited to will appear on your Project Landing Page. If you want to leave them at any point, the Project will be maintained with the Owner/Creator of that Project, and your leaving will not affect that in any way.

  1. On the Project Landing Page, navigate to the Project you want to leave
  2. If you have not joined the Project yet, click the Leave button on the Project tile
  3. If you have already joined the project, click the three-dot menu and click leave in the top right corner of the Project Tile.
