Our Trends & Influences series of events this year provides a deep dive into six of this year’s trending styles. A different influencer joins us at each of these six events, speaking to why their brand identifies with each of these design styles. Discover the six styles featured and a little about the design strategies of each of these influencers.
Curate with Natalie Myers in California
The curated design trends can take longer than others because it is an elevated and refined effort at carefully selecting pieces that draw you to them. These are not the items you see in popular catalogs. Myers explains that these spaces “stand out from a sea of sameness.” She goes on to say “The aesthetic is a collected and almost artful application of interior elements to the space. There are European sensibilities at play, but it is not overly ornamental or maximalist. It is edited, thoughtful and restrained.”
Myers founded Veneer Designs, an award-winning studio that focus on creating an organic and modern aesthetic where every detail is carefully curated. Follow Myers on Instagram @nataliemyers.
Invigorate with Sara Malek Barney in Texas
Invigorating your space is all about imparting energy, vitality and strength into your design by awakening the senses with room design. Barney explains that “some of my favorite experiences with invigorating homes come from the unexpected. A pop of color, a unique touch, a bit of whimsy. It’s a space that has you talking about it long after you’ve left it.” This doesn’t mean you have to go bright and bold with color. “It can be a total zen den and invigorate you to seek the peace and calm you’re searching for,” explains Barney.
Barney is the founder and principal designer of BANDD/Design, a studio that’s executed more than 160 residential projects with a focus on creating spaces that are effortless, interesting and purposeful. Follow Barney on Instagram @jointhebandd.
Redefine with Kate Pearce in Illinois
Redefining your space is all about thinking of it in a new or different way. This is where decades of different design styles culminate in a way that’s reflective of your values, aspirations and personality. Pearce loves “that the very definition of this trend, to redefine, involves breaking down barriers and dispensing with restraining boxes in which our styles have to fit.” She suggests thrifting pieces to bring antiques into your design.
Pearce is a Chicago-based interior designer that creates eclectic living spaces with the help of vintage items that add both functionality and personality to a space. Follow Pearce on Instagram @katepearcevintage.
Infuse with Andrew Suvalsky in New York
The Infuse design style is “confident, playful, strong, energetic, complete, enveloping and comforting,” according to Suvalsky. A liberal use of color is key for the Infuse design style and Suvalsky says, “I wouldn’t name particular colors, but sometimes color infusion will trend toward deeper jewel tones, other times more toward softer spring-season hues. Just like with colors, there’s an endless range of shades or moods one can work in.”
Suvalsky is a trained architect and the founder of Andrew Suvalsky Designs. He loves creating spaces that are clean, fresh, intimate and completely unique. The spaces he creates often feature a combination of new and antique pieces. Follow him on Instagram @andrewsuvalskydesigns.
Reclaim with Janice Burkhart in Colorado
Pay tribute to the past with this design trend, which encourages homeowners to use sustainable, classic home furnishings to recreate timeless designs, often with a focus on being eco-conscious. Burkhart explains that this trend is completely aligned with the look of her brand. She explains that “One of my goals when presenting furnishings to clients, is multi-room use. I like a piece of furniture that can be reused in another setting later. My rule is in three spots.”
Burkhart is an interior designer dedicated to creating spaces that provide a quiet luxury in life. Her spaces offer a new take on classic design, resulting in spaces with timeless appeal. Follow her on Instagram @burkhartinteriors.
Elevate with 2id Interiors in Florida
“We were drawn to the Elevate trend because it combines luxury with comfort in a way that’s both aspirational and attainable,” as explained by 2id Interiors. They do this by “placing a focus on high-end pieces that enhance the aesthetic of the room, while still ensuring it is a functional space.” Sophisticated and glamorous, this trend focuses on high-quality materials, luxurious finishes and a few statement pieces. 2id Interior suggests using neutral colors like taupe as a timeless backdrop for your design.
