With innovative finishes, patterns, shapes, and sizes, floor & wall tile is becoming a focal point for every room. Here’s what design-savvy homeowners are talking about.

Floors & walls take center stage with these on-trend choices.

Size & Shape

Large-Format Tiles

Big tiles make a bold statement. Once found primarily in commercial applications, large tiles are trending in residential design. Because fewer individual pieces are used, large tiles can visually expand a space, especially when the grout closely matches tile shade.

Available in square and rectangular shapes, large tiles can be used on shower walls, backsplashes, and countertops.

TIP: Try pairing large-format pieces with smaller, coordinating tiles to add interest.

Subway Tiles

Subway tiles have evolved from the classic, glossy white rectangle. New colors, finishes, and materials are available that build on the trend.

TIP: For an unexpected twist, try placing subway tiles vertically or in a herringbone pattern.

Fashion-Forward Finishes

Faux Marble

Marble lookalikes have all the style of the real thing without all the fuss. Natural marble is relatively soft, porous and prone to staining. Some cleansers, lotions, and acidic foods can cause damage.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are now available that mimic the complex veining of marble. These faux marble options are durable, easy to care for, and a fraction of the cost of natural stone.

Wood Look

With shades and graining that look like real wood, these man-made alternatives offer superior durability and ease of care. Porcelain and ceramic tiles don’t require refinishing as wood does, and are a better choice for damp locations like bathrooms, kitchens, and entryways.

Fabric Inspired

The intricate textures and striations found in linen, silk, and rice paper are translated into durable porcelain and ceramic tiles.

Concrete Inspired

Concrete-inspired tiles feature a matte finish and come in a broad range of colors. The subdued color variations work in a variety of settings and are a great complement to industrial decor.

Metal

Metal and metal-look tiles can introduce the warmth of copper or the cool shine of steel into a space. Typically used on backsplashes and as wall accents, metallic tiles are also available for floors.

Glass

Glass tiles have a unique depth of color and reflective quality not found in other materials. Sizes range from tiny, one-inch mosaic pieces to oversized subway tiles. Available in a broad range of colors and shapes, there are glass tiles designed for nearly any vertical or horizontal surface.
