Colony Tub and Shower Trim Package with Single Function Shower Head and Diverter Tub Spout
Incompatible for shower trim replacement
Buyers beware: I purchased this product to replace/update the handles and spout on an American Standard shower uni. After attempting the task, our plumber discovered that at some point American Standard modified the shower valve design perhaps in the 1970s-80s so that this package (handles, diverter spout) required a full replacement of the existing H/C valves and diverter. We checked the web and saw no older products available anywhere. So we returned this product for refund after deciding to wait until summer when we could attempt the shower upgrade with a bath renovation. I wish Build.com could give us heads up on this issue.

The unit was a good fit to replace a 30 year old tub faucet. I was able to get away with minimal piping change and have a modern ceramic valve faucet.

Rough-In kit needed
We purchased this tub/shower faucet thinking it would be the perfect replacement for our older faucet. The holes lined up but the valve body was not long enough to attach the handles. Our wall is 1/2" sheetrock and bath tile (1/4"). We have a 1/2" sheet of plywood behind the sheetrock and tile to give the back of the faucet body strength. The valve body would have to fit through this thickness. With guests arriving in a week we had to scramble to get this faucet in place. I called the manufacturer, American Standard, and they said I would need a Rough-In kit. We ordered it and barely got the faucet with Rough-In kit installed. One of the screws that came with the set was too large to fit into the hole that attaches one of the handles. We called American Standard back and they sent a free Rough-In kit with the screw that fit properly. In the mean time, we used a grinder to make the screw head smaller to fit into the hole. By the time the rough-in kit arrived, our guests had come and gone so we didn't need it. The original rough-in kit with s/h was $47.09. This was all nerve wracking considering we had guests arriving in a few days. I read the instructions of the tub/shower faucet and nowhere did it give the thickness of the wall that this faucet would fit.
The instruction diagram needs to show this to save the consumer time and irritation. The handles and tub spout are made out of plastic. We didn't install the shower head, also plastic, because the shower head we had looked better. Not what I was expecting from an American Standard product. American Standard advertises the product as being "made in America". The valve body had a sticker showing it was made in Mexico. All in all, the set looks nice, but only time will tell if its durable.
