Blade Pitch
X

Blade Pitch

Blade pitch is the angle of the fan blades when compared to the horizontal. Blade pitch is often referred to as the ‘angle of attack’ from the blade to the air. A good quality fan will generally have an optimal blade pitch of 12-14 degrees. Fans with a blade pitch in the 8-10 degree range are generally useful for rooms that need minimal airflow. The higher a fan’s blade pitch, the more pressure the fan blade will apply to the air in front of it, thus forcing more air downward. This is why some lesser quality fans can look like they're spinning faster than others, but when you stand under them you will feel less air.

Blade Span

Blade Span is the measurement of the diameter of the fan. It is measured from the farthest point of one blade edge to the farthest point of the opposite blade. Each room in your home may require a different size fan depending on air movement needs.

Light Emitting Diodes (LED) are known for being incredibly efficient and long lasting. Lasting 25x longer than a standard bulb. While incandescent and fluorescent lights consist of filaments in glass bulbs or bulbs that contain gases, LEDs consist of small capsules or lenses in which tiny chips are placed on heat-conducting material.

CFL

CFL bulbs are more and more frequently becoming the norm in the American household. With their long life span and bright shades CFL's are always a good option if you want a fixture that performs and saves you money every year.

Fans with 1-3 Blades

Fans with 1-3 blades display a very unique style and can make a distinct and pleasant visual impact to any home. Fans in this range also tend to move faster due to the lighter weight which circulates more air, but also generate a slightly higher level of ambient noise.

Fans with 4 or 5 Blades

Most common ceiling fans will either come in a 4 or 5 blade configuration, the main difference between them being that of aesthetics. While offering a pleasant symmetry, it is also in this 4 to 5 blade range that most homeowners seem to find the ideal balance between air movement and noise.

Fans with 6-10 Blades

Also known as specialty fans, these fans offer incredibly high air circulation usually due to their dual motor or extremely large size. Mostly designated to rooms over 400 sq ft, these fans are very unique and can make a big hit in any home looking to cool a large room with the use of only one fan.

Number of Bulbs

Number of Bulbs

The number of bulbs on a fixture is important for both style and function. The number of bulbs can alter the amount of light given off, but so can the wattage of your bulbs. Make sure to keep any width limitations in mind while selecting your fixture.
