Single Wall:
Single Wall

Also referred to as stove pipe or black pipe. Utilized in the interior of the home, from the connection to the stove/fireplace, up to a wall junction where class A (double or triple wall pipe) is then required.


Double Wall
Double Wall

Can be either stove pipe or class A chimney pipe. This type of pipe has a solid insulated layer between the inner and outer pipe which enables smaller clearance requirements and a cooler exterior surface for added safety.


Triple Wall
Triple Wall

The class A chimney pipe has three pipe walls with a solid insulated inner section and an air insulated outer layer. This configuration helps lower clearance requirements and keeps the exterior pipe wall cool for added safety.

This can be measured from interior wall to interior wall of the innermost walls in a venting component. Typically, this measurement will coincide with the flue size, in systems where no increasers, or decreasers are used.

As a general rule, stove and chimney pipe are used to vent stoves that burn wood, oil, and coal. Type L vent pipe is used to vent Pellet (i.e.biomass) stoves, and Direct Vent for conventric gas furnaces. The type of furnace and fuel type will be published in the manufacturers owners manual for your appliance.
