Kingston Brass KB91 Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice quality at a Great price It's great looking and easy to install. It's definitely not black but a dark oil bronze. Just what I was looking for. Looks as good as any of the high price ones at your local home improvement stores. Very happy with the purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great; easy to use; lousy instructions I have installed a few faucets in my time. This one was a nightmare. The one-page instructions omitted a great number of steps, over-simplifying the entire procedure. For example, the very first instruction of pop-up/drain assembly, which came with the faucet, said to separate a few parts, which was all well and good, but, at no time did the one-page instructions mention to put those parts back! It is absolutely critical that the entire instructions (both pages) be read BEFORE assembly, so the installer - - amateur (like me) or professional - - knows what they're up against. Also, despite appearances in the retail/online photo, the faucet and handles are each comprised of two separate pieces each. The faucet, especially, was very difficult for one installer (me) to keep straight while tightening the nut from beneath the sink (and why do they supply such a wafer-thin nut, when a thicker one would be so much easier? And make it an easy-to-grasp, plastic, one, as well!). The handles require an Allen wrench to secure to the domed base. The wrench came with the package, which is all well and good, but, after securing the handle to the domed post (again, not easy, and not in the instructions, if you can believe that!), there is nothing to cover that access hole, and, though it isn't obvious to the casual viewer, it is susceptible to splashed water. I used a tiny bit of "Silly Putty" to hide it; it is practically invisible with the polished brass finish, but, I doubt it would be as invisible with the darker finishes. The downspout was a foot shorter than I needed, so I had to buy an extension, which wasn't horrible or expensive, but was annoying. Kingston Brass could have supplied an oversized plastic downspout with instructions on how to cut it to size (which would have been important, because many amateurs might do it incorrectly). The "2-3 hour" installation time on the instructions turned into a 4-day, 3-5 hours per day job, which, admittedly, had mostly to do with rusted parts, a broken U-joint (which I wouldn't have discovered had the faucet installation been easy, so, in a small way, I'm grateful for that!). I dread to think what shortcuts a professional would have taken to get around the bizarrely terse instructions, not to mention the bill to install it. On the up side, it looks good, and the handles - - which "float" on their domed bases - - are incredibly easy to turn, but, are, correspondingly, fragile, and may break, easily, if over-torqued while turning in either direction. The only other down-side was that the spigot does not come out further from over the basin (the previous one came out a good 3" more), but, that's my fault for not checking that more thoroughly (I thought I had, but, maybe, I misinterpreted the online schematic from Kingston Brass). In hindsight, I would NOT have purchased this set, and may never purchase from Kingston Brass, again. But, the choices at my local retailers (both national home and bath chains, as well as mom-and-pop bath shops) were extremely limited and far more expensive. Regardless, I cannot recommend this to the casual handyman, and would also recommend that pros stay away from it (you don't want your reputations to hinge on shoddy instructions and fragile parts).
