Elk Lighting 17026/1 Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Odd Installation I like this light very much. However, the installation instructions did not cover what I think of as a very common case. I wanted to just have the light flush-mounted to the wall and plugged in. However, the instructions only covered installing the light into an electrical box cut into the wall. I have this light mounted above a bed. If I move the bed, I do not want to have to make another hole in the wall. I called Lighting Showplace customer support and was told that it was not possible to do the simple installation that I wanted. Then I called Elk Lighting. As soon as I gave the model number of the lamp, the gentleman knew exactly why I was calling. He said that he gets this question at least once a week. He has been working with the departments that provide the mounting hardware and the instructions to resolve this problem, but it still exists. The suggestion from Elk is really a kludge, but it worked out fine. So, if you have any installation questions, I suggest calling Elk Lighting directly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly as pictured The Elk Lighting 17026/1 (Indoor Lighting): Wall Sconces Swing Arm looks as pictured. Quality is good not great, but can't tell once it's on the wall. The straight piece that hides the cord/keeps it straight along the wall is about 30" and there is plenty of cord to reach an outlet. The swing arm allows you adjust the lamp to your preferred position. It is not complicated to hang.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I bought these lights because (1) I had limited space between the bed and the window molding and these fit and (2 I wanted the swing arm style and the ORB color. I hunted all over the web for wall mounted lamps that fit those specs and there are not many choices. We installed them yesterday, and they are beautiful to look at. So what are the negatives? (1) as someone else noted, there are no mounting instructions unless you are doing a hard-wire installation, so as homeowners we were left figuring out the mounting instructions, such as the size of hole to drill into the drywall. Yes, we figured it out but why are there no instructions? (2) the screws onto which the covers are screwed are a tiny tad too long, which means that the whole lamp won't quite tighten up against the wall (it jiggles a tiny bit) (3) the swing arms are very very difficult to move -- to the point that my husband and I moved them back and forth several times to loosen them a bit, and the center joint on one of the lights came undone when I did that. Yikes. I was able to put it back on, but that did not give me a great deal of confidence in how long the light will last or in how well it is engineered and made -- so should I order another one as a spare? complain? take down the light and re-package it and send it back? So I can't give these lights a very high rating.
